IF JESUS CAME
If Jesus came today he’d shed 7 billion tears
Looking back upon the sins of the past two thousand years
From Bangladesh to Bangor Maine and all that’s in between
At the waste and pain and avarice and the hatred so obscene

If Jesus came today where exactly could he go?
They’d trash his name on Twitter, make him a youtube show
Where could he live, what could he say? To make us understand
We’d turn him into a nasty meme, we wouldn’t buy the brand.

If Jesus came today, he’d turn and run away
If I were him I would too..wouldn’t you?

If Jesus came today as so many think he should
Would the message that he had to say do him any good?
Without a billion dollars to “get the point across”
They wouldn’t take the time to even nail him to a cross

If Jesus came today would he be living on the street?
Without a home, without a job, without enough to eat
Rounded up to “make things nice” when politicians came to town?
Or beaten with batons after his sermon on the mount

If Jesus came today, he’d turn and run away
If I were him I would too......wouldn’t you?

Blessed are the humble
Blessed are the meek
Blessed are the voiceless
Without a means to speak
Blessed are the righteous
The few and far between
Blessed are the shut away
Who are seldom ever seen

If Jesus came today he might have a different name
He might be a different color but the end would be the same
Maybe she is out there, maybe she is not a man
But whomever they may be I hope they have a better plan
But whomever they may be, I hope they have a better plan
